The U11 Hockey 7’s tournament at Churcher’s College was a fantastic display of skill, teamwork, and determination. Both the Prince’s Mead A and B teams put in outstanding performances, with the A team emerging as champions and the B team securing a well-deserved third place.
From the first match, the teams demonstrated excellent passing across the pitch, using the wings effectively to open up play and create attacking opportunities. Their ability to spread the game wide and switch play quickly put the opposition under constant pressure. Off the ball, the players worked tirelessly, running back into position and ensuring they were always ready to support teammates in both attack and defense.
Defensively, the teams were relentless, tackling with precision and winning the ball back efficiently. Their ability to regain possession and transition quickly into attack was a key factor in their success. As the tournament progressed, both teams improved significantly, growing in confidence and cohesion with each match. Their composure under pressure and ability to adapt to different opponents highlighted their development as a squad.
A standout performance came from the A team’s goalkeeper, who conceded only one goal throughout the entire tournament. This incredible defensive record was a testament to their concentration, quick reflexes, and excellent decision-making. The defensive unit in front of the goalkeeper also played a crucial role, showing discipline and teamwork to keep opponents at bay.
This success is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of all the players, who have been training diligently every week at Bar End Astro. Their determination to improve individual skills and willingness to listen to coaching points have paid off in their impressive performances. The tournament showcased not only their technical ability but also their team spirit and resilience.
A huge thank you must go to Mr. Smart, whose passion for hockey and expert coaching have been instrumental in the team’s progress. His enthusiasm and knowledge have inspired the players, helping them to develop into a well-drilled and confident squad.
The Prince’s Mead staff are incredibly proud of the teams’ achievements, recognizing the hard work and commitment that have gone into reaching this level. Winning the tournament and securing third place is a fantastic accomplishment and a reflection of the players’ dedication to the sport. Congratulations to all involved on an excellent tournament.
