We joined St John’s Winchester for the launch of The Fabric of Winchester memory quilt exhibition at The Arc on Thursday 11th January to shine a light on the St John’s Winchester Dementia Support Service.
This community initiative brought together people from across Winchester to embroider memories of the city. Daisy, from Year 6, used the Winchester Roundtable as the inspiration behind her square. She said: “I thought that the Roundtable was a big part of Winchester and would therefore be good to do. I’m really happy with the result, it took me about a week and a half to finish it. It’s a creative idea and it’s fun.”
Lucinda Watt, Head of Marketing at Prince’s Mead, also sewed a square recycling used Prince’s Mead uniform to celebrate the thousands of pupils, parents, teachers and staff who share fond memories of the school which was founded in Winchester in 1949.
More than 120 quilt squares were sewn together to create six quilts that have now been donated to Winchester Hospice and will be enjoyed for years to come by the residents there.
