Dear Parents & Friends,
On the eleventh hour, of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918, the guns fell silent over the battlefields of the First World War. Remembrance Day is an important day in the school’s calendar. This morning, we gathered in front of the portico to remember and honour those who served and still serve to defend our democratic freedoms and way of life. From WW1 soldiers, veterans of WW2 and the Falklands to those who continue to play a vital role in service to Britain today; we were able to remember and thank them all.
It is important that our children are aware of the sacrifices made by past generations to allow them to live in a free world. This is made even more poignant by the war currently being waged in Ukraine at the moment. Our pupils stood in silence for two-minutes; Harry and Charlotte, our Head Boy and Head Girl, read a moving rendition of ‘In Flanders Fields’ by John Macrae and then accompanied Mr Young, who laid the wreath by the lectern. The wreath will also be taken to the War Memorial in Martyr Worthy and placed there during the service on Sunday morning. I must thank the children for producing the beautiful artwork that adorned the portico and also mention the operations team for making sure that everything was in the right place at the right time.
On a lighter note, I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the fireworks tonight and experiencing my very first PMA event!
Kind regards,
Adam King
