Celebrating 75 Glorious Years

The atmosphere was joyful and filled with nostalgia as we celebrated our 75th anniversary with a spectacular Diamond Jubilee Garden Party. The event, held on our school’s picturesque grounds in the Itchen Valley, was a delightful tribute to the school’s rich history and vibrant community spirit.

In attendance were three past headteachers (Donna Moore, Penelope Kirk, and Peter Thacker), whose leadership spanned 35 years from 1987 to 2022, dating back to when the school was located in the centre of Winchester in Lansdowne Road. These esteemed educators, each having left a significant mark on the school, reunited to celebrate this milestone. In a touching ceremony, the current Headmaster, Adam King, presented a commemorative decanter, symbolizing the school’s enduring legacy and the timeless value of education.

The day was filled with jubilant activities for all ages. Pupils, parents, alumni and staff indulged in traditional cream teas and enjoyed delightful picnics under the summer sun serenaded by the Prince’s Mead choirs and orchestras. The lawn buzzed with excitement as families engaged in traditional garden games, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The tea cup ride was a particular favourite, bringing smiles and laughter to the garden at Worthy Park House.

A highlight of the event was the friendly yet competitive cricket match between Year 6 pupils and their parents. This spirited game showcased the talent and enthusiasm of the pupils and the supportive involvement of their families, highlighting the close-knit community that has been a hallmark of Prince’s Mead for decades.

Headteacher, Adam King, reflecting on the day, remarked, “This celebration is a testament to the strong bonds and cherished traditions that have been cultivated here over the past 75 years. It’s wonderful to see so many familiar faces and generations coming together to honour our school’s legacy.”

The Diamond Jubilee Garden Party not only honoured the past but also celebrated the present and future of the school. As the festivities drew to a close, there was a shared sense of pride and optimism, looking forward to many more years of educational excellence and community spirit.
